The best way to dry a golden retriever is with a high-velocity dog dryer. Using a high-velocity dog dryer will ensure your golden retriever gets completely dry. A dryer is also a useful tool in helping control shedding.

What is a high-Velocity Dog Dryer?

Let’s go over what a high-velocity dryer is and exactly how they work. A high-velocity dryer is also called a forced-air dryer. The dryer forces high-velocity air that are not heated but by force pushing water out of the dog’s coat and drys them.

What To Expect With a High-velocity Dog Dryer?

You can expect to get your dog dry in less time. With towel drying my dog is never completely dry even after using multiple towels and quite the arm workout he is never completely dry.

The dryer is exactly what the names suggest; it’s a highly powerful blow dryer and will blow the water and loose fur right off your dog. Having a golden retriever that loves mud and water made this a must for our family.

He also started developing skin issues related to not being completely dry if your dog is developing skin issues such as hot spots or skin yeast infections. Getting a high-velocity dryer may help you solve the issue.

What Is The Best Dog Dryer For a Golden Retriever?

After doing some research and reading countless reviews, we decide to get the K-9 III Dog Grooming Dryer the model we went with has variable speeds, so you can start on low and slowly crank up the speed as your dog gets used to it.

Going into this with the mind frame of wanting the best dryer to dry my golden retriever in the least amount of time since he is a daily swimmer was my goal. This dryer has enormously cut down on the amount of time I spend drying the dog and not mentioning the laundry. Before, I would use 3 towels to dry and one for him to lay on so he’s not leaving wet puddles all over the house.

Keep in mind that the cheaper ones have less horsepower and will take a lot longer to dry a double-coated dog.

So when choosing a dog dryer, remember to look at the horsepower. Some of the cheaper dryers will not be worth having with a golden retriever. It will be like drying your dog with a blow dryer; yes, it could work, but how long will it take, and you have to hold the button for the cool air the whole time!

Drying Tips Using a High-Velocity Dryer

Start in a closed room or outdoors due to the amount of hair that will be removed from the dog. The dryer will also blow off water spraying walls or floor. Keep that in mind when choosing a spot to dry off your dog.

When drying the dog work against the growth essentially blowing the water off and away from the skin. I usually work the two wettest areas first which is the rear and neck. This is also the area my golden develops a yeast infection so I tackle these first. Working in circular motions using the spade nozzle will help remove the dead loose fur. After I have achieved the desired dryness I will brush him and then go over with the wide tip going with the growth blowing his coat straight.

Are Dog Dryers Worth It?

If you have a golden retriever or multiple goldens you undoubtedly need a good dryer with the amount of shedding, bathing, swimming these dogs require it is a must for your sanity!

Having a dryer has helped reduce the amount of shedding in my home to a normal, acceptable amount. I know you can relate if you have a golden retriever. With the combo of the dryer and the automatic vacuum, I have controlled the amount of hair in our home and saved myself time. So much so we are considering adding another golden baby to the family.
